'Lost' image of Gilles Villeneuve - 25/11/2011
I've just unearthed some transparencies that I took at the 1981 British Grand Prix, held at Silverstone.
I came across them while sorting through some negatives of the 1979 British Grand Prix, where they had been filed by mistake.
They include a shot of the late, great Gilles Villeneuve leaving the pits during practice in his Ferrari 126C.
Villeneuve went on to start the race from eighth place on the grid but was forced to retire on the fourth lap.
Sadly, this was his last appearance in a British GP before his untimely death the following year at Zolder during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix.
