Tale of mini marvel known as the 'Twinny'
One of the more unusual cars that appears on my website is the Deep Sanderson 105 ‘Twinny’.

It’s a single-seater car with a 1071cc Mini Cooper engine at both ends.
Retired racing cyclist Reg Harris wanted a car that was fun to drive and could compete in hill climbs.
Lawrence Tune took on the job of building the car and Downton supplied the engines.
My image of the car shows constructor Chris Lawrence driving the car in a Formula Libre race at Mallory Park in 1964.
The use of two engines required a system of linkages that enabled the driver to operate them independently.
Having the rear engine come in first meant the car could be ’tail out’ for the hairpin.
Chris was going well in the race until a puncture sent the car into the bank at the Esses.
Later in its life, driven in sprints by Tony Kinch, it was faster than Tony Marsh in the Ferguson P99.
